Ihram for Hajj

Ihram for Hajj: Rules, Clothing, Intention and Restrictions

You’re standing in the airport terminal, dressed in two pieces of white cloth, and you’re wondering, “Am I in ihram yet?” Many first-time pilgrims ask this question, and the honest answer surprises them. The clothing only tells half of the story.

Ihram for Hajj is a state that you enter with a true intention, and some ordinary actions are restricted until your first release. If it’s done correctly, every subsequent rite will be valid. If you get it wrong, even the most sincere pilgrim may be penalized or have the Hajj invalidated.

So, how do you correctly enter ihram, where, and in what clothing? What is forbidden, and what happens if you do? The following parts, produced by Miftah Al Huda Academy teachers, provide step-by-step answers to each question in straightforward language.

What Is Ihram?

Ihram is a sacred condition that a person takes on when intending to perform Hajj or Umrah for Allah’s sake. Some regular freedoms, such as fragrance, grooming, hunting, and intimacy, are suspended from the moment of intention until rituals allow the pilgrim to return to them.

Just as saying “Allahu Akbar” begins the prayer and renders speech impermissible, entering ihram for Hajj starts the pilgrimage and renders certain ordinary actions impermissible.

The Meaning of the Word

The word ihram comes from the Arabic root ḥ-r-m, which means “to make sacred” or “to make forbidden.” This same root is used in words like haram, meaning forbidden, and al-Masjid al-Haram, which is the Sacred Mosque. A man in this state is called a muhrim, and a woman a muhrimah.

Ihram the State vs. Ihram the Garments

This is the most typical misinterpretation. Wearing Ihram garments does not place you in ihram.

  • The state begins when you establish the intention (niyyah) to begin Hajj or Umrah.
  • Men wear the izar (Lower garment) and rida’ (Upper garment).
  • A man can wear the white ihram garment at home, at the airport, or on a plane and still not be considered ihram. The restrictions begin with the intention.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Actions are but by intentions, and each person will have but that which he intended.” Sahih al-Bukhari

  • Women have no special ihram garment at all, which shows that ihram is first of all a state of the heart.

Is Ihram Essential to Hajj?

Yes, ihram is an essential pillar and obligation of Hajj; jurists agree that the pilgrimage is invalid without it.

Why Do Pilgrims Enter Ihram?

The rules of ihram for Hajj are not arbitrary. Each one contains a lesson.

  1. Equality: There are no brands, uniforms, or titles. Every man wears the same simple garment , a clear example of the verse:

إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ

“Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.” (Surah Al-Hujuraat 49:13)

  1. A reminder of death: A reminder of death. The white ihram garment looks similar to burial shrouds. The Prophet ﷺ mentioned a man who died in ihram in Arafah, saying:

“Wash him with water and Sidr and shroud him in two pieces of cloth, and neither perfume him, nor cover his head, for he will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection saying, ‘Labbaik,’ “ Sahih al-Bukhari

  1. Detachment: Perfume, grooming, good clothes, and intimacy are put aside, and the heart turns to Allah.
  2. Restraint of the Self: For days, you must guard your words, hands, and desires. This develops patience (sabr) and God-consciousness (taqwa).
  3. One Ummah, One Call: Pilgrims from every country wear the same clothes and call out the same words. The Ummah becomes one body.

When Do You Enter Ihram for Hajj?

The time depends on which type of Hajj you perform. Allah makes Hajj an obligation on those who are able:

﴿ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ﴾

“And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find thereto a way.” (Surah Al Imran 3:97)

The Three Types of Hajj

  • Tamattu’: You enter ihram for Umrah at the miqat, complete it, and then depart ihram. You live normally in Makkah, then enter ihram again for Hajj on 8 Dhul Hijjah.
  • Qiran :You enter one ihram for both Umrah and Hajj and remain in it until the Day of Sacrifice.
  • Ifrad : Ihram in Hajj al-Ifrad is the pilgrim’s intention to perform Hajj alone, without Umrah, from the miqat.
Type When ihram starts Leave ihram between Umrah and Hajj? hady
Tamattu’ At the miqat for Umrah, then again on 8 Dhul Hijjah Yes Yes
Qiran At the miqat, for both together No Yes
Ifrad At the miqat, for Hajj only No Not obligatory

Allah said:

“And when you are secure, then whoever performs ‘umrah [during the Hajj months] followed by Hajj [offers] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] – then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned [home]. Those are ten complete [days]. This is for those whose family is not in the area of al-Masjid al-Haram. And fear Allah and know that Allah is severe in penalty.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:196)

The Months of Hajj

Allah said in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197) :

“The Hajj (pilgrimage) is (in) the well-known (lunar year) months (i.e. the 10th month, the 11th month and the first ten days of the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, i.e. two months and ten days). So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein by assuming Ihram), then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj. And whatever good you do, (be sure) Allah knows it. And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is At-Taqwa (piety, righteousness, etc.). So fear Me, O men of understanding! ”

These are Shawwal, Dhul Qa’dah and the first part of Dhul Hijjah.Scholars argued about entering ihram for Hajj before Shawwal. According to the Shafi’i school, it becomes an Umrah rather than a Hajj, but others believe it is valid but  disliked.

Time of Ihram for Hajj

  • The acceptable period for those who can stand at Arafah is from the first night of Shawwal to the break of dawn on the Day of Sacrifice (the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah).
  • The 8th of Dhul-Hijjah (the Day of Tarwiyah) or just before it is the optimal time for ihram for Makkans and whereas those who who live there, who come from outside Makkah (afaqis) enter ihram from designated miqats.

How Long Will You Be in Ihram?

Ihram in Hajj al-Tamattu’

  • Umrah: Enter ihram at the miqat during the Hajj months, complete Umrah, then exit ihram.
  • Hajj: Enter ihram from Makkah on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah (Tarwiyah), before going to Mina. An earlier start is valid, but the 8th is preferred.
  • End: Ihram ends with the major release (tahallul akbar) after stoning, shaving or trimming, tawaf al-ifadah, and sa’i, from the Day of Sacrifice up to the 13th.

Duration and Rulings of Ihram in Qiran and Ifrad

  • Start: Ihram begins at the designated miqat. The qarin intends Umrah and Hajj together, while the mufrid intends Hajj alone.
  • Duration: In both, the pilgrim stays in ihram from arrival in Makkah until the rites of the Day of Sacrifice (stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah, shaving or trimming, and tawaf al-ifadah), which bring the release from ihram.
  • Length: Ihram lasts longer than in Tamattu’, where the pilgrim exits ihram after Umrah, and its length depends on when the pilgrim arrives before Tarwiyah and Arafah.

This is why the majority of international pilgrims chose Tamattu. The Prophet ﷺ recommended people who do not have a sacrifice animal to perform, as it is the easiest on the body.

Miqat: Where You Must Enter Ihram

A miqat is a boundary that a person intending Hajj or Umrah cannot cross without ihram. There are five fixed locations surrounding Makkah.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) (p.b.u.h) made Dhul-Huiaifa as the Miqat for the people of Medina; Al-Juhfa for the people of Sham; Qarn-al-Manazil for the people of Najd; and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen; and these Mawaqit are for the people at those very places, and besides them for those who come thorough those places with the intention of performing Hajj and `Umra; and whoever is living within these boundaries can assume lhram from the place he starts, and the people of Mecca can assume Ihram from Mecca. Sahih al-Bukhari

Miqat Modern name Who it serves
Dhul Hulayfah Abyar Ali Madinah and those passing through it
Al-Juhfah Near Rabigh Sham, Egypt, North Africa and those passing through it
Qarn al-Manazil As-Sayl al-Kabir Najd, Taif and those passing through it
Yalamlam As-Sa’diyyah Yemen and routes from the south
Dhat ‘Irq Adh-Dharibah Iraq and routes from the northeast

Entering Ihram When Flying

The majority of pilgrims arrive by air, and planes cross the miqat line well before arriving in Jeddah. The pragmatic approach:

  1. Put on your ihram garments at home, the airport, or during a layover. Changing in an airplane restroom is difficult.
  2. Do not declare your intention too early. Wearing only the clothing does not qualify you for ihram.
  3. Make your intention before the plane hits the miqat. The obligation is based on the intention, not the cloth. Many airlines publicly announce the approach but do not rely on it. Ask the crew, set an alarm, and don’t fall asleep.

Is Jeddah a Miqat?

The Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Fiqh Council of the Muslim World League have accepted the following mainstream position:

  • Residents of Jeddah can enter ihram from their homes because they live within the miqat boundaries.
  • Pilgrims flying in from the outside should not wait until they land. Their airplane has already flown through a miqat, therefore they must enter ihram before it.

Pilgrims Already in Makkah

If the person undertaking Umrah is already inside Makkah (a Makkah resident, someone living there, or someone who entered without the aim of performing Umrah and later wished to enter ihram), he must proceed to the Hill (the area outside the borders of the Haram) to enter ihram.

The Masjid at-Tan’im (Aisha’s mosque, may Allah be pleased with her) is the most accessible and well-known location on the Hill for Makkah residents to visit and enter ihram.

If You Pass the Miqat Without Ihram

If you intended to perform Hajj but crossed the miqat without ihram, return to the miqat and enter ihram there; according to the majority, there will be no penalty. If you are unable to return, enter ihram and offer a dam (a sheep sacrificed in Makkah and distributed to the poor).

What to Do Before Entering Ihram?

A well-prepared ihram for Hajj goes more smoothly. Before the intention:

  1. Groom yourself: Trim the nails, eliminate underarm and pubic hair, and trim the mustache. This is forbidden while in ihram.
  2. Perform ghusl (a complete bath): It is also implied for women who are menstruating or bleeding after childbirth.
  3. Apply perfume solely to the body (for men), never to the garments. Aisha says:

“I used to apply perfume to the Prophet (ﷺ) when he intended to enter the state of Ihram, before he put on his Ihram (garments). And again when he ended his state of Ihram, but before he had made Tawaf around the Ka’bah.’ Agreed upon.” Sahih al-Bukhari 1539, Sahih Muslim 1189

  1. Put on the garments: Men wear izar and rida’. Women wear their usual modest clothing.
  2. Pray: If it is time for an obligatory prayer, say it and then enter ihram. Scholars disagree on whether there is a two-rak’ah prayer  for ihram.  Either practice is acceptable.
  3. Make the intention and start the talbiyah.

The Intention (Niyyah) and the Talbiyah

The intention is fundamental to ihram for Hajj. It is the moment you transition from everyday life to sacred worship.

The Niyyah

The niyyah is a firm decision in the heart to begin Hajj or Umrah for Allah’s sake. It’s suggested to say the type of pilgrimage openly, as the Companions heard the Prophet ﷺ declare it. Any wording that conveys the meaning is acceptable.

Type You say Meaning
Ifrad Labbayka Hajjan Here I am for Hajj
Tamattu’ (at the miqat) Labbayka ‘Umratan Here I am for Umrah
Tamattu’ (8 Dhul Hijjah) Labbayka Hajjan Here I am for Hajj
Qiran Labbayka ‘Umratan wa Hajjan Here I am for Umrah and Hajj

The Conditional Intention (Ishtirat)

If you are concerned that illness or another obstacle may prevent you from proceeding, you might include a condition. It was narrated that Duba’ah said:

“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered upon me when I was unwell. He said: ‘Do you intend to perform Hajj this year?’ I said: ‘I am sick, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘Go for Hajj and say: “I will exit Ihram from the point where I am prevented.’”  Sahih al-Bukhari 5089, Sahih Muslim 1207

The Shafi’i and Hanbali schools recognize this criterion; if the pilgrim is impeded, he may leave ihram without penalty. The Hanafi and Maliki schools do not believe it has this effect.

Many scholars advise it especially for those with a real reason to fear, such as the elderly or the sick.

The Talbiyah

Right after the intention, begin the chant of the pilgrims. This is the wording the Prophet ﷺ used:

“Labbaika Allahumma labbaik, Labbaika la sharika Laka labbaik, Inna-l-hamda wan-ni’mata Laka walmulk, La sharika Laka’ (I respond to Your call O Allah, I respond to Your call, and I am obedient to Your orders, You have no partner, I respond to Your call All the praises and blessings are for You, All the sovereignty is for You, And You have no partners with you.” Sahih al-Bukhari

When to stop? For Hajj, when you begin stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah on 10 Dhul Hijjah. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said:

“Fadl bin ‘Abbas said: ‘I was riding behind the Prophet (ﷺ) and I continued to hear him reciting the Talbiyah until he stoned ‘Aqabah Pillar, and when he stoned it, he stopped reciting the Talbiyah.’” (Sahih). For Umrah, when you begin tawaf.

Volume: Men raise their voices. Women recite so that they can hear themselves. Narrated as-Sa’ib al-Ansari: Khalid ibn as-Sa’ib al-Ansari on his father’s authority reported the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: Gabriel came to me and commanded me to order my Companions to raise their voices in talbiyah.(Sunan Abu Dawud 1814, graded sahih).

How to Wear and Tie Ihram for Men?

  1. Ghusl, grooming, and body perfume should be completed first.
  2. Hold the izar behind you at waist level, with equal lengths on both sides.
  3. Wrap it right over left, so that the edge is around the navel and the hem is below the knees.
  4. Roll the top edge down two or three times before fastening a belt over it.
  5. Drape the rida over both shoulders, like a shawl.
  6. Idtiba (arrival tawaf only). Pass the rida’ under the right armpit and over the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder uncovered. The Prophet ﷺ and his companions did this .

A note on prayer: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: None of you must pray in a single garment of which no part comes over his shoulders.(Sahih al-Bukhari).

The Hanbali school regards shoulder covering in prayer as obligatory, although the majority considers it as recommended.

The “No Stitched Clothing” Rule

‘Abd Allaah bin Umar said A man asked the Apostle of Allaah(ﷺ) What clothing one should put on if one intend to put on ihram? He said He should not wear shirts, turbans, trousers, garments with head coverings and clothing which has any dye of waras or saffron; one should not put on shoes unless one cannot get sandals. If one cannot get sandals, one should wear the shoes, in which case one must cut them to come below the ankles. Sunan Abi Dawud 1823

Scholars define “stitched” as clothing suited to the shape of the body or a limb, such as a shirt, trousers, underwear, or socks. A hemmed or sewn-together sheet is still a wrapped cloth and is acceptable. Underwear is not permitted, but a man with a medical necessity may wear what he needs and pay a fidyah, according to the majority.

Belts, Watches and Sandals

A belt, money pouch, or bag strap, as well as a watch, eye glasses, or ring, are permitted because none of the garments are fitted. Men should wear sandals or slippers that leave their ankle bones exposed. The Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali schools emphasize the ankles, while the Hanafi school mandates that the raised bone on top of the foot be uncovered, so ordinary closed shoes are not allowed.

Washing and Changing

You can change into a clean set as often as you want. Changing the garment does not mean the end of ihram. Wash clothes with basic or unscented soap.

Ihram for Women

A woman wears no specific ihram clothing. She dresses normally, loosely, and modestly, exposing only her face and hands. Her ihram begins with an intention, just like a man’s.

Women may wear stitched clothing, an abaya, a hijab, socks and closed shoes, in any color. Many choose white color for the heat.

The Two Restrictions for Women

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Abdullah ibn Umar used to say that a woman in ihram should wear neither a veil nor gloves.

Women may not wear a fitted face covering or gloves. Most scholars allow women to lower a cloth or part of her headscarf over her face in front of non-mahram men, so that it hangs loosely rather than being fitted like a niqab. Some hadith describing this practice have weak chains of narration, hence scholars rely on combined evidence and the broader idea of modesty protection.

Menstruation and Postnatal Bleeding

A woman in this state can still enter ihram and perform every rite of Hajj except tawaf. When Asma’ bint ‘Umais gave birth to Muhammad bin Abi Bakr. She sent word to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asking what he should do. He said:

‘Perform Ghusl, bind yourself with a cloth then begin (the Talbiyah for Ihram).’“ Sunan an-Nasa’i

Practical Tips

  • Choose a hijab style that makes wudu easier.
  • Hair that falls inadvertently while combing or doing wudu is not a violation.
  • Apply unscented sunscreen, lip balm, and soap.
  • Pack hygiene items and spare hijab pins.
  • At the end of Hajj, a woman trims a fingertip’s length from her hair. She never shaves.

Restrictions of Ihram for Hajj

The restrictions are what make ihram for Hajj a true discipline-building experience. Here’s a fast quick overview, followed by details:

For Both Men and Women

  1. Perfumes and scented products. This includes scented soap, shampoo, lotion, deodorant, and wipes.
  2. 2. Haircutting and nail clipping. Allah says:

“And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughter.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:196)

  1. Hunting land animals. Allah says:

“O you who believe! Kill not game while you are in a state of Ihram for Hajj or ‘Umrah (pilgrimage), and whosoever of you kills it intentionally, the penalty is an offering, brought to the Ka’bah, of an eatable animal (i.e. sheep, goat, cow, etc.) equivalent to the one he killed, as adjudged by two just men among you; or, for expiation, he should feed Masakin (poor persons), or its equivalent in Saum (fasting), that he may taste the heaviness (punishment) of his deed. Allah has forgiven what is past, but whosoever commits it again, Allah will take retribution from him. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Able of Retribution.” (surah Al-Maidah 5:95)

But the game of the sea is lawful:

﴿ أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُ مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِ ۖ وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَرِّ مَا دُمْتُمْ حُرُمًا ۗ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ﴾

“Lawful to you is (the pursuit of) water-game and its use for food – for the benefit of yourselves and those who travel, but forbidden is (the pursuit of) land-game as long as you are in a state of Ihram (for Hajj or ‘Umrah). And fear Allah to Whom you shall be gathered back.” (Surah Al-Maidah 5:96)

  1. Marriage contracts and proposals. The Messenger of Allah said:

‘“The one in lhram should not get married, nor arrange a marriage for anyone else, nor Propose marriage”

  1. Intercourse, foreplay and sin. The Prophet ﷺ promised:

“Whoever performs Hajj for Allah’s pleasure and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not do evil or sins then he will return (after Hajj free from all sins) as if he were born anew.” Sahih al-Bukhari

What Is Allowed in Ihram?

Islam is a religion of ease:

﴿يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ ﴾

” Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)

Question Answer

(Sahih Muslim 1298). Some Maliki scholars restrict this.

Brush teeth or use miswak? Yes.
Take medicine? Yes
Medical mask? Scholars differ. Follow your group’s scholar.
Change or wash ihram? Yes.

Violations and Penalties

Only intercourse before the first tahallul invalidates Hajj itself. Other violations, such as perfume, cutting hair or wearing fitted clothing, do not cancel Hajj; instead, they necessitate an expiation.

Mistakes and Forgetfulness

Allah teaches us to pray:

“Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286)

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ wearing a cloak with traces of perfume after entering ihram. The Prophet ﷺ told him What would you do in your Hajj? He said: I would take off the clothes and would wash from me this perfume. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: What you do in your Hajj do it in your Umra. ( Sahih Muslim 1180).

He did not order an expiation. Based on this, the Shafi’i and Hanbali schools hold that no penalty applies for perfume or clothing in cases of forgetfulness or ignorance.

The Hanafi and Maliki schools require a penalty. Remove the item as soon as you remember. For acts that destroy something, like cutting hair or hunting, the majority still require expiation even when done by mistake.

3 Types of Expiation

  1. Fidyah: For rules violations such as perfume, fitting clothing, or hair cutting.

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin Ma’qil said:

“I sat with Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah in the mosque and asked him about this verse: ‘He must pay a compensation of either fasting (three days) or giving charity (feeding six poor persons) or offering sacrifice (one sheep).’ [2:196] Ka’b said: it was revealed concerning me. I had trouble with my head, so I was carried to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), with lice crawling on my face. He said: ‘I did not think that you were suffering as much as I see. Do you have a sheep?’ I said: ‘No.’ Then this Verse was revealed: “He must pay a Fidyah (ransom) of either fasting (three days) or giving Sadaqah (charity – feeding six poor persons) or offering sacrifice (one sheep).” [2:196] He said: ‘Fasting is three days, charity is to be given to six poor persons, giving each one half of a Sa’ of food, and the sacrifice is a sheep.’” (Sahih).

  1. Dam: A sacrifice of a sheep or goat (or a part of a cow or camel) in the Haram that is delivered to the poor. It is due for missing an obligatory act of Hajj, such as passing the miqat without ihram.
  2. Badanah: A pilgrim who commits sexual intercourse before the first release from ihram must slaughter a camel as hady.

These rulings are intended for learning purposes. If you commit a violation, seek a qualified scholar or the mufti before presenting an expiation.

How Does Ihram End? (Tahallul)

Ihram for Hajj concludes in two stages, allowing pilgrims to gradually return to daily life.

1. The First Release (the Minor Release)

This release occurs after performing two of the three rites of the Day of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha):

  • Stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah.
  • Shaving or trimming the hair.
  • Tawaf al-Ifadah with sa’i (if sa’i is still due).

What becomes permissible: Everything that was previously forbidden due to ihram (such as wearing regular clothes, applying perfume, and clipping nails), with the exception of relationships with women (intercourse and its preliminary phases).

2. The Second Release (the Major Release)

This release comes after completing the three rites listed above. If the pilgrim has previously been stoned and shaven (the first release), he can finish the second release after completing tawaf al-ifadah and sa’i.

What becomes permissible? Everything was prohibited because of ihram, with no exceptions, even relationships with women.

Common Mistakes and Practical Tips

  • Crossing the miqat while asleep: Set an alarm and declare your intentions early.
  • Perfuming the clothing: Perfume is only applied to the body before intention.
  • Always keeping the right shoulder uncovered: Idtiba’ refers only to the arrival of the tawaf.
  • Wearing a hat in the sun: Use an umbrella.
  • Use scented wipes or deodorant: Read the labels.
  • Thinking the garments alone mean ihram:The intention is what counts.
  • I forgot to bring my permit: An official permit is required for the Hajj pilgrimage. Consult the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, as well as the Nusuk platform, to determine current requirements.

Pack replacement sets in your carry-on, put on a secure belt, and break in your sandals at home. Keep a pocket card. Above all, have patience. Crowds and heat test everyone, and Allah has said:

﴿ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِي الْحَجِّ ﴾

And no disputing during Hajj (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:197).

Conclusion

Ihram for Hajj consists of three main parts: a sincere intention in the heart, basic type of clothing that eliminates worldly differences, and careful conduct that guards the tongue, hands, and desires. Without intention, the white garments are just cloth. The spirit of Hajj is lost when good intentions are not followed by excellent conduct.

The limits serve as a training ground. For a few days, you sacrifice minor comforts for Allah, and in exchange, you gain patience and taqwa that will last a lifetime. As Allah said:

“And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding.” (surah Al-Baqarah 2:197)
